Riding Equipment

Having the right riding gear helps riders feel comfortable, confident, and safe in the saddle. Below is a guide to essential equipment and where to find it.

If you’re unsure what to purchase, we’re always happy to help guide you.

Riding Essentials

Boots

  • Paddock boots are the best place to start for most riders

  • Tall boots are optional

Half-chaps are:

  • Highly recommended for all riders

  • Required for jumping classes

They help protect the leg, improve grip, and support a more stable lower leg position.

Riding Pants (Breeches)

  • Breeches or riding tights are required

  • Any color is acceptable

  • If pants have belt loops, wearing a belt is recommended

Shirt

  • Shirts should be neat, fitted, and tucked in

  • No tank tops

  • Avoid bulky sweatshirts during lessons

This allows instructors to clearly see rider position and provide effective feedback.

Gloves

  • Recommended year-round

  • Improve grip and comfort while riding

💡 Please label your gloves so they can be returned if left at the barn

Helmet

  • Must be ASTM-certified and properly fitted

  • A well-fitting helmet is essential for rider safety

If purchasing a new helmet:
👉 Please have a trainer check the fit before removing tags

For riders interested in showing:

  • A black helmet without decoration is recommended
